Lift Me Up

Moby, the bald-headed techno-electro junkie has come out with another album entitled ‘18’. This album was released with ‘Play’, his previous award-winning and ten million selling album shadowing it. All songs on ‘Play’ were taken and used for either ads or movies.

‘18’ is another showcase of Moby’s instrumental abilities, his prowess as a DJ and also features four songs which he sings in.

On the songs that he doesn’t sing in, he puts in bits and pieces of samples from songs ranging even right from the 60s. For example In Another Woman, soul singer Barbara Lynn’s "I’m A Good Woman" can be heard echoing through the song. Whereas, in Sunday (The Day Before My Birthday), a sample of Sugarhill Records founder Sylvia Robinson's 'Sunday' is present.

Sinead O’ Connor is also featured on this album, lending her voice to sing about "strings of her heart" in the slow indie-rock Harbour. Showcased on the funky dance-beat, Body Rock-like Jam For The Ladies are Angie Stone and MC Lyte. The slow and quiet Great Escape is one of my personal favourites off the album. Other songs like In This World, In My Heart, and Look Back In feature raunchy, steady, solid drumbeats.

Of course on ‘18’, there are his two already released singles, We’re All Made Of Stars and Extreme Ways which you must have heard over the airwaves or have already seen the music videos.

‘18’ ends with I’m Not Worried At All, which rings so, so true for Moby. What with his success with ‘Play’ and ‘18’ to continue his legacy, Moby doesn’t sound too cocky when he says he’s not worried at all.
